Walk + Eat: Almond & Strawberry Oat Bars

Let’s not beat around the bush here – if you don’t like sugar, I suggest you come back another day (I’ll make something healthy-ish soon, I promise). Traybakes. They’re the best aren’t they? This flapjack-style oat bar is sweet, sticky and perfect for an energy boost on long weather-weary walks. It’s layered with strawberry jam and almond flakes but you could mix this up with any seasonal fruit jams to match your seasonal walks. I like my flapjack/oat bars on…

    Walk + Eat: Sausage Rolls

I cheat when I make ‘homemade’ sausage rolls. I buy the pastry ready rolled, and I also buy pre-made quality sausages that include other flavourings like apple or caramelised onion, instead of just the sausage meat. Easy no-fuss bakes like this are my favourite. Today’s recipe I added mustard and honey too, to complement the apple in the sausages I bought. Man, are they tasty! Sausage rolls are perfect snacks on walks in autumn and winter, washed down with a…

    Walk + Eat: Breakfast Muffins

These muffins are a great breakfast-on-the-go snack. This recipes makes 12 and you can freeze them too (defrost overnight ready to eat in the morning). Although there is sugar in my recipe (I’m not giving it up anytime soon), it’s much less than shop-bought muffins (12.5g per muffin). These are packed with blueberries and I’ve sprinkled them with pumpkin seeds and almond flakes for added nourishment. They just taste real good and are a welcome treat when I’m dashing out of…

    Walk & Eat: Fruit Scones

I haven’t featured a Walk + Eat recipe on the blog for a while, due to us having a half broken oven. The joys of home ownership, eh? There seemed no point in attempting to bake until we sorted a new one. Months later, putting off things like we usually do, AO.com sent a timely email to review their Stoves Electric Double Oven*, and I’ve not stopped cooking (and gazing on its cleanliness in awe) ever since; just in time…

Walk + Eat: Peanut Butter & Oat Cookies

This is my version of a healthy snack. Nevermind the chocolate, it has oats in it! And besides, the beauty of the Walk + Eat recipes is that I get to walk off these indulgences. These cookies are great for an early morning treat to give you energy for walks. I sometimes switch the chocolate for nuts for added texture but this batch caters to my sweet tooth. Enjoy!

    Walk + Eat: Festive Tiffin

It may be slightly cheeky to call this recipe ‘festive’ as I’ve merely added fragrant ginger (in the form of biscuits!) and cranberries to the tiffin. But this girl needs something simple, quick and tasty for all the December walking adventures, and ginger and cranberries sprung to mind! The texture of tiffin wins me over every single time. These would make a great gift too!

    Walk + Eat: Flapjack

I mentioned in my previous post that there would be a new blog series on Mathilde heart Manech. Welcome to the first instalment of Walk + Eat; simple and homely recipes to accompany outdoor adventures. I decided to incorporate my love of walking with something I’d like to do more of – making homemade food. Whether that be snacks for the Tupperware box or food for the flask, I’m hoping I’ll soon have an array of simple and delicious recipes…

    DIY Homemade Christmas Dog Biscuits

Today, one week before the holidays begin (screams inside), I’m teaming up with the brilliant RSPCA to make sure we all spare a thought towards our pets this Christmas. They are the bees knees and the business after all. We naturally assume that our pets will adapt to new situations but they often, including young pups like Polly, can feel anxious or stressed when there is a change in their routine, and especially during the holidays where there are tempting…
