This Life: A Catch Up

Due to all sorts of adult tomfoolery, I’ve needed some time-out from the blog. Not because I wanted a digital break, or any of that jazz, but simply because I needed to focus on the basics: work, health and tackling the laundry pile. Keeping myself to myself, with support from those closest to me, has helped me cope with some crappy things lately.

In short, things are getting pretty heavy with regards to my dad’s health, and my mum caring for him has taken its toll. Alzheimer’s takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, and over the past month or so things have really hit home. On top of the progression of the disease, and all of the nastiness that comes with it, I think I’ve only just fully realised that we’ve already lost him. He is of course still here in person, and there are moments of clarity and laughter, but it’s hard to focus on them when routine bites hard.

It sucks, but I feel like we’re going through the grieving process. On top of this, we’re trying to protect mum and ensure dad gets the best care he deserves, as well as making sure my sister and I don’t go crazy with it all too. Anyway, I’m sure you’ll understand why I’ve not had much energy to talk about things on here. I think I’ll go through stages for a while, enjoying this space when I have the headspace, and going elsewhere when I need respite.

One thing that has helped a lot this summer has been spending time in our patio garden. Perhaps as our current situation is all very messy, I’ve needed to have control and order at home more? Who knows, I’m enjoying it anyway. With special thanks to Monty Don, I’ve learnt quite a lot since coming home from our holiday, so I’ll make sure I post small space garden updates and tips on here too. Anyone else channeling the ol’ Good Life, to get them through the day?

Then there was Australia. I have a post to share about our glorious holiday very soon. Needless to say, it was the best and I wish I was back!

In other news, the blog has changed ever so slightly. It felt like I needed to go back to basics on here, in terms of design and content, to suit my current lifestyle. I’m going to post what makes me happy and hope you’ll come along for a digital jaunt with me.

There will be more home/garden posts, outdoor adventures and wellbeing posts, because that’s where I am in my life at the mo. I’ll still write the odd outfit post too because I love clothes and I love seeing anyone over 35, sharing their style and beauty advice online – there’s not enough of us, damn it. Oh and Polly, will be gracing the blog as usual. She’s four now, can you believe it?!

Anyhoo, enough from me.. How are you, chums?
