10 Simple Things #5

Letting go It’s been an overwhelming year, with health issues taking hold of my parents, and a worrying few months of ill health from me too. This year I have learnt to worry less about work stress, money, what people think of me and keeping up appearances because I simply don’t have the energy to deal with any of that nonsense any more. Wellness is my only priority now. It’s actually quite freeing when you realise what really matters, it’s just a bit crummy that bad things have to happen to make you see the bigger picture, and finally take note.

Christmas More so than ever, I can’t wait to celebrate Christmas this year. The tree is going up the first weekend in December, festive plans with friends and family have been organised, and I’ve almost finished buying the Christmas presents. All being well, that means I can enjoy December in all its finery, finish off work for the year and look after myself and family.

Presents I’ve printed off some photographs from this year to give as framed gifts. Guys, this makes me very happy. I recommend you doing the same.

Winter clothes I’m so happy I can finally wear my winter clothes and boots and cosy up outdoors. Lotus kindly sent me these gorgeous navy walking boots, which I adorned with red laces (I do this to all my walking boots), for my everyday adventures with the pup. Ever since I had metatarsalgia, I’ve been looking after my feet, ensuring the footwear I wear provides support and comfort. These, like all Lotus shoes (I love their ankle boots), are ridiculously comfortable to wear. These boots are especially ace because of the zip on the side of the boot, making it easy to whip them on and off. Thanks Lotus!

Birthday Celebrations Writing this, I’ve just remembered I need to sort a cake for my partner’s birthday coming up. Hmm, what to make/buy? He’s managed to get a few days off work which I’m happy about, he deserves time off, but our plans are small because of an annoying hospital appointment (for me) on his birthday. Nevertheless, I’m taking him out for breakfast, and we’ll be having a night indoors eating his favourite takeout curry and watching football too, so he’ll be a happy lad indeed.

Watching DOGS on Netflix. I love this documentary series. A genuinely heart warming watch about dogs, and their owners stories. Pass me the box of tissues…

Playing tourist in Hebden Bridge The Northern Rail strikes have scuppered many plans over December. One of those plans was celebrating a friend’s 40th in Harrogate, but plans have now changed to a weekend playing tourist in Hebden Bridge instead. I’m SO EXCITED. There’s lots of art and craft fairs going on throughout the weekend, so I’ll be able to finish my Christmas shopping as well as enjoy all the creativity the town has to offer. Plus there’s the promise of a couple of meals out too. Celebrating birthdays in Hebden Bridge instead? Grand.

P.S I 100% support the strikers. Northern Rail, sort it out!

Weather I spoke about my love of the winter months in this post, but I wanted to mention it again here too. One of the reasons I enjoy this season so much is that it’s a reminder that nature trumps all. I like that when I walk the dog in the wind and rain, nature doesn’t give a damn. It’s not about us all the time. It’s not about us.

Outfit details: Coat from TK Maxx | Ankle Boots c/o Lotus | Denim shirt from charity shop | Black Jeans from New Look (old) | Tote from Primark (old) | Hat from TK Maxx

Enjoying ‘crap’ films: The Christmas Prince, Christmas Inheritance, Once Upon A Holiday, The Princess Switch, The Christmas Chronicles…I’ve watched them all. Terribly good TV for days when nothing else will do. P.S Kurt Russell is ace in The Christmas Chronicles.

Happy distractions: Lindt chocolate, homemade sausage rolls, expensive beauty cream that makes me feel trés special, watching Matthew Posa adventures on YouTube and Polly. Always Polly.
