Good Vibes Only: The Arrival of Spring

I know the sunshine in the UK last week was fleeting but boy, wasn’t it a treat? Like snow, the heat slows me down and in this modern world of ours I feel like that can only be a good thing. Spring is here and I’m feeling all the good vibes:

Roller Derby If it wasn’t for the sunshine I reckon I would have started and ended the week in an anxiety ridden blur –  it was our Roller Derby Championship bout last weekend. But the sun relaxed me a lot. Apart from a very nervous Friday and Saturday morning travelling up to Aberdeen, I stayed relatively calm.

Saturday, was one of my favourite roller derby memories to date. We didn’t win (we were SO close) but we played ridiculously well considering there were only 10 of us, and we had travelled from Yorkshire to Aberdeen. Although I made mistakes, I was proud of how quickly I learnt from them on track, in the same game. I’m dreading the professional photographs coming out mind you…I don’t think I’ve ever played so hard. Hello sweaty red face…

Seaside It felt so good to see and smell the sea; it always feels like coming home. I’ve made myself a promise to take more trips to the seaside this year, even if just for the day. P.S Aberdeen’s promenade is gorgeous.

Rest I took my own advice (read my latest blog Treat Yo’ Self) and celebrated our near-win with a lazy Sunday afternoon spent on the sofa, feet up with some Thorntons chocolates and a cuppa by my side. A day of luxurious rest after a long weekend of travelling, sport and socialising was exactly what I needed. I loved every minute of that afternoon.

Spring evenings I forgot how much I love the evenings in the warmer months and last week was my first taste of one this year. Cinema visits, casual strolls to the pub with the pooch, a glass of crisp rosé (or two), tacos, the happy chatter and buzz in Hebden Bridge…more of this please.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park It was by pure chance that we timed a trip to YSP on a sunny day! I’ll share more on the blog soon but as always, it was an absolute delight. I’ll never get bored with the combination of nature and art here. Seeing prancing lambs claim this space as their own was just lovely. P.S The Chiharu Shiota Beyond Time installation in the Chapel was absolutely stunning.

Salts Mill  The Easter holidays were lovely; spent with family, house pottering and having time off to relax and regroup. It was lovely to visit Salts Mill too, prior to seeing my parents, for some respite and inspiration. I’m starting to realise that art, and the places that house them, really are an important part of my life. Manchester Art Gallery is next on my list, I haven’t been for years…

Other highlights: the smell of fresh-cut grass, hearing bumble bees in the yard, wearing sunglasses, opening every window in the house, morning cuddles with Polly, making Spotify playlists, making family plans for summer, wearing my new Ziggy Stardust t-shirt and beer garden afternoons in the sunshine.

How’s your spring shaping up?
