Just Pinned: Christmas 2020

Whilst I’m preparing my ‘Shop Small’ 2020 Christmas guide, I thought I’d write a quick blog post sharing some recent Pinterest finds, celebrating my favourite time of year (yup, even this year).

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, this Christmas is going to be difficult for so many of us. But if I’ve learnt anything from 2020, it’s that time is fleeting so you must find things that make you happy even when life feels impossible. We owe that to every single person that isn’t with us anymore, and we owe it to ourselves. Christmas isn’t for everyone I know, but it has always given me comfort, and boy do we all need some of that right now.

As I mentioned, I’ve got a small businesses gift guide coming up (because they need us more than ever), and I’m also drafting a post on ways to celebrate an unconventional Christmas, which I am sure 2020 will be delighting us with this year!

The decor here is all inspired by natural materials; foraged branches turned in to festive displays throughout the home, eucalyptus in glass candle bottles for the Christmas table and simple handmade crafts that turn the ordinary into something quite magical! I have more time this year to plan ahead, what with Covid-19 being a pain in the arse. So it’s been comforting looking for homemade gift ideas (mainly food stuff for me) that don’t cause too much stress. The knitted socks (alas, I’m not skilled enough to make these yet) and monochrome coasters are perfect stocking fillers. Oh and the macrame key rings? Gorgeous, one-of-a-kind gifts! The past few years I’ve left wrapping gifts till the very last minute, and I ALWAYS forget how long it takes. They begin looking pretty and carefully wrapped, then they end up being hastily thrown together with illegible handwritten gift tags.

I can’t be bothered with Christmas stress this year so I’m starting early and plan to have it all wrapped up (pun intended) in November. I’ll be using my usual brown Kraft paper, with ribbon and extra finishing touches this year. See above for more ideas.

Have you started planning yet?

No Christmas plans as yet, though the last couple of years I’ve really found your gift guide inspirational! Looking forward to the indie shop guide too. I’m determined to support our local businesses even more this year. Thanks also for the link to Athena Mellor’s excellent videos in your last post- really inspiring me to get outdoors!
