Our Campervan Conversion Wish List

Are you tired of me rambling on about our van yet? Apologies (holds hands up), but we’re going to officially own our own campervan any week now, and the excitement my friends is reaching breaking point!

Like the rest of the world we need something good to focus on for the future. For me, that’s my garden (bulbs planted!) and our small family adventures in our Mazda Bongo.

Our van, still yet to be named, is being partly converted by professionals, as we didn’t feel comfortable sorting electrics and drilling holes in the first vehicle we owned. After lots of research, and working out how much a conversion costs on top of the purchase of the van itself, we got ourselves a conversion wish list! Can you contain the excitement? Here goes:

1 | No passenger seats! We are a family of three, including the dog. It’s unlikely that we will need passenger seats so we’ve opted for a conversion that has room for a full width comfy bed, which means we don’t have to sleep on lumpy passenger seats.

2 | Rip out the carpeted floor and replace with engineered wood flooring. This was high on our list as we need durable flooring that can be easily cleaned for all our outdoor adventures with Polly. Aesthetically, it will look pretty neat too.

3 | Install a side bench with storage underneath, that pulls out into a full width bed at night.

4 | A rear kitchen pod with pullout table, sink, tap and gas stove! In spring and summer, we’re likely to cook outdoors or keep the tailgate open at least. But we also wanted the option to be able to cook or put the kettle on indoors wherever we park up, no matter the weather.

5 | Electric hookup and Leisure Battery. Basically, this means that when we’re at a campsite with hookup we can use their supply and charge away to our hearts content. When we’re wild camping we can use our 12v Leisure Battery for lights, blinds and charging phones. One day we might invest in a solar generator as I have a feeling we’re going to enjoy wild camping more than campsites.

6 | Passenger swivel seat fitted. Until we get a high pod roof fitted (too expensive at the moment) we need as much extra space as we can and the swivel seat is a great compromise. I think Polly might try claim this spot if she can fit on it.

And that’s it! The interior is very grey so I’ll be brightening it up as soon as I get my hands on her. Let’s hope it’s not too long!

Take care x

Sounds so exciting! I would love a campervan for family adventures, my sister has one that she DIY renovated with her husband and I am so envious! One day maybe, but I think perhaps we have to finish our house first! 🙂 xx

There are so many amazing DIY conversions out there. Maybe one day we’ll feel confident to do a larger van if it’s something we love! Xx
