My Wardrobe Refresh

AD | Sponsored Post

Like many of us nowadays, ever since the Climate Emergency was declared, I’m more educated and mindful when buying new clothing, and consuming in general.

I’d hardly consider myself a part of the fast-fashion problem; I don’t buy into trends and I’m a high waisted jeans and baggy jumper kinda girl. But I still have clothing sitting in my wardrobe that is either badly made, unworn or not well cared for by yours truly. I have lessons to learn about my ever-changing body shape too, which can occasionally cause an impulse purchase. So where do I begin in creating a better wardrobe for me and the planet?

The laundry pile | Sometimes weeks go by and I haven’t opened my wardrobe once because I’m wearing and rewearing the same items, week after week. Are you the same? Make a note of your clothing staples and create a wardrobe based around them. For me, that’s jeans, midi dresses, jumpers and my trusty Spurs hoody.

Use Pinterest to shop your wardrobe | Once you know your staples, ask Pinterest what’s the best way to style a certain item, and see if you already have it. You’ll either find inspiration or a new outfit with minimal effort. I did this recently with a pair of Mom Jeans and discovered boxy tops pair perfectly with them, and I already owned two. Hurrah!

P.S A little tip – sort your hair and makeup before trying things on so you’re seeing the outfit in its best light.

Buy clothes that can be worn in all seasons | If you’re going to buy something new, choose an item that is versatile and can be worn throughout the year. For example, shirt dresses are effortlessly stylish and can work with tights and boots in winter, and a pair of your favourite trainers and denim jacket in spring.

Be kind to your clothes | This is where I’m a tad rubbish, folks. I promise from now on, to make my clothes last longer, I will look after the good quality clothing I already own (wash less, repair and store well). I also promise if I buy clothing, even if secondhand, that it should be made of sustainable materials only.

Try before you buy | As a lot of us buy online nowadays and clothing sizes differ from store to store, it’s really important to try on new clothes. Make the effort to shop less but in a bricks and mortar shop. Or when shopping online, choose retailers that offer free returns and make sure, if it’s not right, it IS returned.

Let the wardrobe refresh begin!
