Web Wanderings #4

The natural and digital world are both a big part of my thirty-something life. So in praise of the internet, here’s some more of my web wanderings (a new series on the blog), including tips, resources and light-bulb moments, that I’ve discovered online lately. Read previous posts here.

On social | On perfection, Matt Haig said:

Your work will never be finished. Your inbox will never be empty. Your body will never be perfect. Your striving will never end. Don’t race life. Walk it.

I know inspirational quotes have a bad rap nowadays,  but on one particular grey Tuesday morning these words hit home. In my December reflections blog post I wrote that my wish for 2019 was to live more in the moment, and to take each day as it comes. I’m very mindful of this at the moment. With some health issues thrown in for good measure, I’m pressing pause a lot more lately. I recognise the good days, and embrace full on weekends adventuring and socialising when I can. On the not-so-great days, I take a step back and enjoy the comforts of my home and family of three.

Article must-read: I’m flying across the other side of the world very soon, and although I don’t have a fear of flying as such, I do have anxiety attacks that come from nowhere (fret not, my consultant is currently on the case).  So I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about my holiday to Australia, not knowing when or if they will occur. But because I know I have good (great, actually) and bad days, I’d always rather take a punt for the sake of those splendid ones. If you’re similar, or do struggle with travel anxiety, here’s a great read by Laura Jane Williams over at Red Magazine.

Recommendations| I am approaching 39 and to this day I still don’t look after my skin well. Makeup and skincare was never a priority to me growing up, but now I’m beginning to see it as part of my self-care routine (eugh, that sounds really naff).

I started following professional makeup artist, Lois Elizabeth on Instagram a while ago, and her recent recommendations have turned into my official skincare dream team. Despite having another bloody cold (shakes fist at sky), I’ve stuck to my new routine and my skin looks and feels so much fresher.

If, like me, you’re a tad dazed and confused with all the beauty products out there, check her out on Instagram for her weekly Stories, and book her for one-to-one sessions online too! P.S Look through her highlights for great tips and tricks.

Shops (feat. gifted items*) | You’ll pretty much always find me in my ‘comfies’ when at home, so I’ve been loving my new leggings c/o new online shop, Love Leggings. The brand was created with one vision in mind; to be the home of leggings for every woman. They make them for women of all sizes (4-28), and include high waisted (my personal fave), maternity, childrens and sports leggings; and in a variety of colours too. They’re well made, wash well and are affordable (classic priced £12.50, high waisted £13.50 and the dusty pink sports leggings pictured are £28). Do check them out chums, I thoroughly recommend.

And because it wouldn’t be a cosy-at-home outfit without a trusty pair of slippers, these women’s sheepskin slippers c/o Celtic & Co have been a welcome addition to my working from home routine.  I chose my Bootee Slippers in moorland green, and putting them on my feet in the morning is pure joy.

Blog post shout-out I’m loving the new direction of writer Susan Earlam’s new creative living blog (previously Old Fashion Susan). Read this post on Public Speaking Tips From Creative Women – a fascinating insight into public speaking.

Podcast | There are Other Ways by Fiona Barrows, a podcast for people who want to live differently. Listening to this has been a real treat whilst on my daily walks with Polly. It’s refreshing to hear views from people who are actively choosing to live a life of their choosing. It takes a lot of strength and courage to swim against the tide.

Disclosure: Gifted items marked c/o in the post.
