At Home: Lounge Makeover

Styled To Sell

I’m very excited today (as is our lounge) to have teamed up with Bairstow Eves, the award-winning UK estate agent, on their Styled to Sell campaign. Oh, and it’s Friday when this post goes live so there’s that too!

In short, Bairstow Eves have collaborated with six bloggers and interior stylists from across the country to help create the ultimate guide in styling your home when it’s on the market. My challenge was to choose tips and ideas from one of the ‘Styled to Sell Six’ to update a room in my house. Challenge accepted! P.S Don’t worry OH, we’re not actually moving.

I chose Maxine Brady, interior stylist and blogger at welovehomeblog.com, and her boho inspired top tips to revive our lounge for the upcoming season, so make sure you make yourself a brew and watch the Style to Sell videos here, and look out for bonus tips from the experts at Bairstow Eves in the blog posts too.

What I love about Maxine’s ideas are that they are quick, affordable (yet look expensive) and the room still has personality too. Her top tips were to:

  • Add statement art to your walls for personality
  • Use plants as decor to create a relaxed atmosphere
  • Add pattern using textiles (rugs, throws and cushions) for depth and texture.
  • She also incorporates natural materials (baskets for plants) and ceramics (plant pots) for added warmth and interest

All of this helps to create a relaxed and stylish bohemian inspired room. Here’s my interpretation of her awesome tips!

The room already has plants and a large statement film poster, as well as details like patterned ceramic coasters, cosy throws and natural accessories (e.g. large woven candle holder) so I thought the boho look would be easier to achieve.

My main takeaway inspiration from Maxine’s video was to mix patterns and textures so I focused on comfort at home; rugs, cushions and a foot stool! All from TK Maxx, I chose the following products to give our lounge a little TLC. My first purchase was the Beige Geometric Patterned Rug to replace our tired plain rug. I love the neutral pattern (grey and cream tones), and the texture of it feels quite soft but hard-wearing too, perfect if  you have a dog in the house.

Then I mixed this pattern with a contrasting Black & White Diamond Woven Mini Bench Footstool. I think as long as you mix neutral patterns they complement each other well. I love the strong geometric pattern on this stool.

To add texture and interest I got a Pink & Cream Aztec Woven Cushion for our grey sofa, and also a plain grey cushion for the armchair. The woven cushion is my favourite, there’s so much detail and texture to love about this it, perking our sofa up a little.

Minus the dog hairs (I attempted to get rid of them, I promise!) I love the new lounge update!

I also love the tips at the bottom of the blog post from Bairstow Eves;

Don’t forget the small touches like having a fire burning in winter if you have a functional fireplace, or lighting candles to bring that warmth and ‘liveability’ to the room.

The scent of a room is really important (I’m always burning candles to combat wet dog smells) so candles, a diffuser (both gifted from Monsoon) or a home fire are another way to make the space more enticing. I’d also like to add music to that list. We have a record player and bluetooth speaker that immediately make our house feel more like a home when they are playing.

Whether you are preparing your home to be sold or are looking forward to a room update for the nesting season, I hope Maxine’s tips and my interpretation of them have helped!

Collaborative Post. Thank you, as always, for supporting the brands that support my blog!
