My Gift To Her

If you could choose one woman in your life who you are most grateful for, who would it be?

My friends at Christy invited me to celebrate the inspiring women in my life as part of their Mother’s Day #MyGiftToHer campaign, and in recognition of International Women’s Day that took place earlier in the month. My task was simply to take a moment to pause and say thank you to the most important woman in my life, as well as share a pamper package including monogrammed bath robes, champagne and flowers.

Choosing one woman was very difficult. I have many awesome female friends, family and colleagues in my life, not to mention my Roller Derby team mates who are as inspiring as they come. All of the women who are a part of my everyday life hold a smushy place in my heart and all for different reasons. But there is one ace-face that I’m very grateful for and that is my sister, Sharon.

So Sharon, here’s just a handful of the reasons why I’m thankful for you and why I feel like a lucky bugger to have you as a sister. P.S I’m gifting her beautiful monogrammed robe today at a boozy lunch and will ask her to read the blog when she gets home as a little surprise!

While I sit here writing this post (whilst eating a bag of Haribo fizzy farm animals nonetheless) she’s busy raising two little people, maintaining a career and renovating a house. Besides being a general Wonder Woman, I’m most grateful for her positive attitude, her humour and support through good and bad times. I don’t know how as a family we would cope without Sharon, she’s an absolute rock and all-round brilliant human being. She never moans, is always upbeat and is as humble as they come. Of course she’s only human and will have her mardy bum days like the best of us but any time spent with Shaz is a good time. So much so I thought I’d recap five of the funniest memories we’ve shared over the years. Here’s to many more to come!

1| Quoting Alan Partridge at length after a trip to the pub whilst on holiday with our parents in happy Northumberland. I’ve got so many great memories of our holidays together in Seahouses and Bamburgh.

2| Singing Nessun dorma out loud (and I mean really loud), to annoy the parents when we were young and sharing a bedroom. I still know the lyrics! Nessun dorma, Nessun dorma…

3|Dancing under Manhattan skyscrapers and the night sky at her wedding reception in New York. The best and happiest of times!

4| The time when we were walking on the canal bank near our parents home and she grabbed me and put me in front of a barking dog (she loves me really I’m sure). It cracks me up every time I think of this. She wasn’t a fan of dogs then. There was another incident with a dog that involved my mum, so I think it runs in the family – ha!

5|Being in hysterics when her flat in London was letting in water during a storm and she was laughing and panicking her head off all at the same time. One of those you had to be there moments but another example of her always making the best of a situation and laughing it off.

And there we have it! Thanks for being a great sister, Sharon and happy Mother’s Day! P.S the photo above is us dancing at her wedding, busting out moves with my mum and the wedding party to Thriller.

Share your funniest moments with the woman you are grateful for the most in the comments below!
