Hebden Bridge

Photo Walk: Weekend Antics

Hebden Bridge

Ever since I started training on a Sunday for roller derby, our weekends have become a little more precious. I’m only out of the house for three hours but to break up the day when we’d usually be out walking Polly, via the pub, has meant I’m a bit more mindful of the time we have on a Saturday and Sunday morning/evening.

Knowing I was away for the full weekend just gone too (more on that this week) I made sure our Valentine’s weekend was filled with all the good things we loved; namely good food, walking Polly, music and great films. There were homemade brownies too. Disco.

We headed to the hills for a steady walk with awesome views of the valley and talked about dogs, holidays, dogs, food, and whether to watch X Files or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on our return. Living the dream, folks. I’m a tad more practical and want to wait a while before we get another pooch but the OH wants to rescue every dog known to man. He’s beginning to convince me too. Perhaps in a couple of years we’ll rescue a pooch. Polly, what have you done to us?!

For Valentine’s we kept it low-key. We reminded each other how awesome we both were, gave Polly extra cuddles then carried on with our day. That’s love in our house folks. As luck would have it I’d been working with the Expedia World on a Plate campaign and had some Italian goodies to eat and drink to inspire our holiday to Italy next year.

Food and drink is important when I think about where I’m going on holiday which is why we both love Italy – we’ve even got an Italian cookery course to look forward to when we visit Australia next month and don’t get me started on the vineyards we’ll be visiting too (eep!). To get us in the Italian mood, we ate cheese, grapes and chutney with Prosecco. Then watched Cinema Paradiso (Alfredo!) followed by bruschetta for starters with the most amazing sun dried tomato, pistachio and almond pate and truffle pasta for our main course. Italy, we’ll see you next year!

Gorgeous countryside! I am pretty sure I live near enough to recreate that walk – whereabouts were you? I am always looking for more lovely places to explore around here.

Sounds like the perfect Valentine’s Day to me really. My fiance was actually away for the weekend, so we celebrated on Tuesday evening and spoiled ourselves a bit by going out for supper, but last year we had my favourite Valentines ever….a long, windy dog walk, then together we installed a towel radiator in the bathroom of our new home, and then ate a slow-cooked wild boar ragu with some lovely Italian red wine by candlelight. 🙂 Simple but wonderful!
