Hebden Bridge

Drive, Nigel Slater and a suspicious snowball.

Happy Wednesday! I’ve had a good few days spent walking, eating, thrifting, planning, watching good films, reading, and making new recipes. Winter suits me, I think. Although, I was a little excited when I saw some Daffodil bulbs popping up near our street; I like Spring too. I’m so fickle.

First up, we went walking near our home town with friends/family and chomped our way through the snow that had begun to melt. I had a close encounter with a snowball with sheep poo in it (nice) and we finished off the walk with a trip to the pub, like you do. The simple things, the simple things…*yabbers to herself*

Then I got cooking! Doing the weekly food shop online is one of my favourite things to do. I love planning what we are going to eat during the week. Last week I researched a few of Nigel Slater’s recipes on the internet (isn’t it great we have free inspiration at our fingertips?!) and we’ve enjoyed his Tea-time mackerel and Quick Vegetable Korma. Nigel Slater, I salute you!

To entertain our well fed tummy’s (after a Banoffee pie!) and warm our fingers and toes, we played some Scrabble and watched three great films that I’d recommend; Drive (second time I’ve seen it and I love it even more), The Descendents and The Artist.

Do you have any film recommendations or Nigel Slater recipes good for hibernation season?

Great post! Recently watched Smoke, based on Paul Auster’s story, loved it. Also recommend Le Gout Des Autres, great fun!
When it comes to Nigel, well there’s the cauliflower cheese soup, and the mussels/leek/bacon chowder in my top 10!

i think with spring heading this way it’s a good time to use the cold and dark to plan ahead with exciting schemes.

Great recommendations – I need to watch Drive too.

I recently picked up a cheap copy of Love Story – that 70s classic with Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neil. I made the mister watch it for Valentine’s as a suitable weepy. Worth a look if you haven’t seen it.
