    Why I Love The Outdoors

As someone who never used to be outdoorsy, it is surreal to me that I’m now the type of person who would prefer to be  exploring the countryside than anywhere else. I’m very much a homebody too, and love pottering indoors, baking, reading and watching movies. But all of this I appreciate more having spent a chunk of my time in nature. Of course, this all started when Polly, our Golden Retriever came into our life.

    A Week in Walks #2

It’s been a great week for walking with Polly in Hebden Bridge. Mainly because of the sunshine and the onset of lighter evenings but more importantly because I don’t have to wash Polly every time we walk in the door. The struggle is real, my friends.  She has this new ‘thing’ where she stands over a puddle, looks at me (no joke) then lays down in it soaking her golden belly full of mud. Little beggar. So the less it…

    A Week in Walks #1

When life feels overwhelming and impossible there are things I like to do to help me find a sense of calm to my day. For example, I demand hugs from the OH and cuddles from the dog. I watch my favourite movies that feel like very old friends. And I walk. I walk away my frazzled feelings in an attempt to remain focused, grounded and also to appreciate the things that sometimes I think we all take for granted. With…

    Lately: Salts Mill Saltaire

Last week I headed over to one of my old haunts, the rather splendid Salts Mill. Anyone who lives in Yorkshire holds this special place close to their heart, so I was really excited to visit again but this time with the peachy Kathryn from Kat Got The Cream. I grew up in the neighbouring town of Bingley and spent lots of my Sundays here as a 16-18 year old; walking to Salts Mill via the canal to visit the Hockney…

Hebden Bridge: Shops (A Quick Guide)

Angela Smyth map illustration on the Visitor and Canal Centre (New Rd). Well hello there! Before diving into the nitty-gritty that is Hebden Bridge, I decided to take my camera for a walk in the sun and make a note of the places I’d like to feature on the blog. It’s not a Hebden Bridge guide as such, just my favourite places to visit and potter in, after living here for over 6 years. To get you started, I’m looking at the…

    Lately: York, Sunshine and Birthdays

I can’t remember when I last had so much fun in a weekend. We went to York, and it was one of those perfectly relaxed couple of days that made me want to stay the rest of the week, if not forever. I took so many photographs between my phone camera and DSLR, but I’ll split them between posts, to share the York love for a little while longer! The simple things that made my birthday a brilliant one; reading…

Picnic Wish List & Top Withens, Haworth

Top Withens in Haworth, West Yorkshire has been named one of the best picnic spots in the UK by the team behind National Picnic Week – hurrah! This pleases me greatly as I live 20 minutes away from the scenic spot plus the Top Withens Farmhouse is supposedly the inspiration for the location of the Earnshaw family house in Wuthering Heights, my favourite novel. It’s a stunning walk, via the Bronte falls, and you can finish your day off nicely with…

Ah, I’ve been waiting and waiting for the chance to write a lately post filled with sunshine, camping and the Great British seaside – and here it is! Oh Whitby, how I love thee. We went for an impromptu Bank Holiday trip to the North Eastern town, and thankfully the nice weather came with us too. My favourite part of the trip was going to Sandsend, only a few minutes drive from Whitby and the perfect place for a spot…
