This life: Remembering August

Hello readers, how is September treating you?

I will always hold a special place in my 41 year old heart for this month. It marks change and a shift in focus, and this year is no different.

We are contemplating a different life. One with home grown food, animals, and space to breathe. Of course we have a peachy old time and home in Hebden Bridge, it’s a beautiful place, but the outdoor space we both want isn’t achievable for our budget where we currently live.

Anyhoo, whilst I dream and plan future homes, raising chickens and a life spent in wellies whilst working from the kitchen table to make a living, I’m excited that we’re approaching autumn and we can hunker down and breathe some life into these plans.

August was an interesting one; lots of work and health related anxiety but coupled with family time, that has made me smile from ear to ear, it’s not been all bad.

I’ve been catching up on socialising but at our own pace and it feels nice to be enjoying other people’s company for a while. Going ‘out-out’ feels very strange but welcome after months of hibernating!

I’ve already dug out my winter jumpers, wearing them with my faithful red lipstick and my layering necklaces c/o Daisy London. This is as dressed up as I get nowadays if we go out for a boozy tea. Thanks Daisy London for making me look more put together than I really am!

Finally, I’ve spent a lot of time at the allotment. Weeding, harvesting, pulling out failed crops, and weeding some more. It’s been a magical 6 months learning about growing veggies and I feel so lucky that I’ve found this new hobby.

I’ll share more allotment fun in my next post. Until then, enjoy the wind down of summer. Autumn is almost here x
