Just Pinned: Festive Scandi Style

I think I may have mentioned previously that all I want for Christmas this year is a quiet and uneventful one. We both have two weeks off and are planning to spend it with family and going on long wintry walks with Polly, fuelled with comfort food and great pubs. I can’t wait (which is why I’m talking about it 5 weeks in advance).

At home this year, I really want our Christmas decorations to be kept simple and natural to reflect a quiet holiday with lots of greenery, grey and white. I think I’m looking to incorporate a more wintry look, rather than a Christmassy one, if you know what I mean?

To begin with, and with guests descending on our doorstep come December, I’m looking at updating our kerb appeal and decorating our front door with the Scandi look in mind. All our garden attention is focused to the back of the house and although our front door simply leads straight onto a path, there’s much more we can do to make it look inviting from tidying away weeds creeping up through the path, adding a seasonal wreath to our door knocker (look at the beauties above!), and updating our front door furniture.

If you’re looking for winter wreath ideas I really love the contemporary and minimal one above made by Fall for DIY. She uses foraged items that you can pick up on a weekend winter walk. Take a basket (and a big flask of hot chocolate) and pick a collection of pine cones, holly, ivy and other foliage…as it’s a minimal wreath you don’t need to collect too much. You can have this on your front door, or interior walls, in next to no time.

Then the look can be carried through indoors. What’s noteworthy about all these images is that they look cosy and Christmassy without being chaotic which is exactly what you need in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The classic neutral palette of grey and white complements green so well, and is calm personified. But if you’re hankering after a little sparkle, metallics will add impact and a touch of magic too.

It’s not set in stone but I think we’ll be spending Christmas Day at home this year, just the three of us. I’ll still be making an effort with the table setting but I’m torn between the rustic (and very hygge) feel of the Himla table and the crisp and bright wintry table setting via Red. Which is your favourite?

Candles, crisp whites and textural throws create the ultimate cosy retreat whether your house is open and roomy or cosy and small. Rather than wanting to tear the decorations down come New Year, I fear I’ll never want to leave the house! Oh please let there be no floods or family drama *crosses fingers*.

How will you be decorating your home this year?
