Just Pinned: Happy Distractions

Hello fine people. How are we all today? It’s been a tad overwhelming lately, hasn’t it. I think we all need a hug. And gin. Oh and strawberry laces, I like those too. Let’s have a party!

I can’t keep up with everything that is happening in this country of ours (how many resignations?!) but I’m refusing to bury my head in the sand and just pretend everything is OK. Because it isn’t. I am genuinely worried about the UK. I’m trying to keep informed, whilst swearing under my breath every time I see Teresa May’s face on the box but I must confess it has all been a bit overwhelming. Where’s that gin?

Of course, I’ve always got Polly’s sweet face and nature to get me through (and put things into perspective) but more than ever I’ve needed to find comfort in the chaos. Something to distract myself from the goings on around me, in the papers, and on the TV. Where else better to look than Pinterest, huh?

I love the type and colours used in the Beaucoup Bakery and Cafe brandingI’ve been pondering whether to design a banner for the blog, mainly as I need to practice my Photoshop skills. I love how fresh, bright and fun the branding is for this cafe.

Amy Poehler. Oh wise one. I love her.

The final image of the surfboard has me dreaming of summer adventures spent outdoors. I’m itching for another holiday by the sea but I’d rather save properly for our very own van. Then we can go when we want, as often as we please.

I love this photo! I got a message from our dog walker last week. An image of Polly swimming. It’s the first time she dived in and swam properly! I felt like a proud mum and gave her all the cuddles that night.

On the flip side of the coin, Polly has also been the cause of my recent increased intake of coffee. 4.30am she woke up the other day! Yawn!!

Roller Derby! We went to see Gotham Girls (New York team, best in the world) play London Rollergirls the other week. I couldn’t believe how fast and fearless they were.

I had a disappointing week at Roller Derby training last week, it all went a bit wrong. But today, I’m feeling good about it all again. I’ll get there in my own time and when I pass I will do ALL the crying. I’ve got a blog post lined up for those of you who ever thought about trying the sport. Watch this space.

This Orbit Ring from & Other Stories is the business. Timely too, after yesterday’s news of the Juno spacecraft reaching Jupiter. Sometimes you need to look out of this world to gain perspective. Or in this case, your finger. Well done, & Other Stories.

I haven’t done any DIY for a long time and with my NCC Creative Writing Course to complete it’s gonna be a while. If you’re needing a crafty fix, visit Fall For DIY. I am in awe of Fran’s creativity. Go visit her website immediately!

I’m actually enjoying wearing summer outfits for the first time in my life. Shirts and turned up jeans are my current fail-safe summer uniform. Or boxy tops paired with culottes and Birkenstocks. Now my frizzy hair just needs to get the memo.

That poem…

Happy Wednesday y’all!

Looking forward to reading more about Roller Derby… I’ve been intrigued for a while but I’m a bit scared of being rubbish or getting injured!

I love your choices. I have commissioned a blog banner – eep! Also so glad you have Polly to distract you at the moment. I am a little bit in love with her from afar.

Finally – VAN! I hope you can get your van soon, I just know you’ll make the most of it. x
