At Home: 5 Winter Hacks

With Winter Solstice on its way my mind is turning for ways to endure and enjoy the winter months ahead. Sherry, boxsets and hiding indoors are at the top of the list, along with booking a holiday for the New Year (our holiday to Australia in March will pull me through winter for sure).

Instead of flying across the world though, today I’m keeping it simple and sharing my top 5 Winter Hacks to keep you warm this winter without compromising on your quality of life, in collaboration with British Gas. There’s even a short video at the end of the post of sleeping Polly pup!

1| Open Fires. OK, not entirely affordable and pretty obvious too, but if you buy your fuel in bulk and forage for kindling the whole experience is cosy, warming and relaxing. Having a working chimney is the best thing about our house and I always look forward to the OH building the fire (it’s his thing) when we come in from an afternoon out.

2| Hot Drinks. Curl your hands around a hot mug of your favourite beverage indoors or out and suddenly EVERYTHING feels better. Coming home after a long day to a hot drink is the the ultimate reward for walking in brrrrr temperatures. You just don’t get that same feeling in summer.

3| Blankets. Our house can never have too many; on armchairs, our sofa, at the end of the bed…EVERYWHERE! Snuggling under blankets is my favourite thing to do in winter. Polly’s loves it too.

4| Jumpers. Winter clothing is by far my favourite of all the seasons. Shopping for knits is my favourite type of shopping, and I don’t feel guilty as it’s practical too! Ahem.

5 | By far my favourite winter hack is snuggling on the couch with Polly after a long walk. She’s my furry hot water bottle! Here’s a short video (30 secs) to demonstrate!
