Lately: Betty’s, Xmas Prep and Time Outs

Bettys

And suddenly it’s the week before Christmas. I’m not sure how that happened, and I swear it was autumn only moments ago, but I know for a fact that we’ll be singing spring’s praises, and filling our vases with cheery Daffodils before we know it. So, let’s all take a deep breath (long pause) and enjoy the festivities and silliness while it’s here (pours another sherry)…

York

I love visiting cities at this time of year, and if I can get away without shopping in them, the more the better (online shopper through and through). Instead I much prefer just taking in the atmosphere on the streets (weather permitting) and stopping by cafes or markets for refreshments.

Last week I was in York with my buddy Julia for a spot of Afternoon Tea courtesy of Bettys. Like you do. Not only was our Lady Betty Afternoon Tea served with a spot of Champagne, but was located upstairs in the very schmancy fancy Belmont room (reservation only), with accompanying pianist. ‘Twas all very grand, my friends, and the perfect afternoon getaway from the Christmas fuss outside on the high street.

The menu caters for all dietary requirements and you can even have complimentary sandwiches and tea top-ups too; a great opportunity to try different tea blends you might not have ordinarily chosen. A big thank you to Bettys and York staff for looking after us!

P.S We recommend the Bettys Tea Room Blend and Lemongrass and Ginger Tisane.

Gorgeous buildings on our way to Blossom Street Gallery in Micklegate.

nail

I seem to be rotating my nail colour from black, bottle green and red lately which suits me just fine. I’m quite impressed and surprised with the Collection range too, helped along with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry varnish. I do like a bargain that works.

P.S Their concealer range is brilliant.

Oh Christmas tree! Polly’s not shown much interest in our tree yet – hurrah! Have you got your tree up yet?

I have an office full of marketing materials I’ve collected over the months for research which I’ll finally sort through during the holidays for inspiration (I’m weirdly looking forward to it!). I love this free read from HOME in Manchester. Courtney Barnett is the bees knees.

Hebden Bridge looks pretty darn festive at this time of year. The orange glowing from buildings makes the whole town inviting…especially the pubs!

sight and sound
I’ve got a ridiculous pile of magazines that I’m saving to read over the holidays but I couldn’t resist digging into the new Sight and Sound issue. I can’t wait to watch The Revenant.

secret santa
I’ve already had a couple of Christmas outings with work and the roller derby girls (survived both intact!). Gotta love a bird themed Secret Santa gift!

What have you been up to lately?

Lovely post Lisa, I feel festive already and your photos really capture the season. I totally agree with you about being in towns/cities and not shopping – just soaking it all up. When we went to Cambridge last month we did exactly that and it made for a much more enjoyable experience rather than the stress of shopping. Oh and I’m totally with you on Sally Hansen Insta-Dry – it’s been a god send when I’m rushed and need to paint my nails! Have a lovely Christmas Lisa xxx
