On Our Travels: London

St Pauls

Here are some more photographs of our time in London the other week while celebrating the OH’s birthday. Travelodge treated us to a stay at the Southwark hotel, which we’ve now discovered is a great location for beavering around London.

We arrived a little early for 3pm check-in but we were able to leave our bags with left luggage for a charity donation of £1 (some Travelodge’s don’t do this). Bags left, we headed straight to a local pub for a birthday drink and then to Tate Modern for some serious Picasso-loving.

Back at the hotel – our view of The Shard!

Travelodge SouthwarkThe room had everything you need for a couple of night’s stay, although there were no drawers to put your bits and bobs in. We got a great night’s sleep on both nights, and didn’t hear a peep from the other rooms or the railway outside. We had breakfast on one of the mornings (not bad, but really busy) so we chose to sleep in the next day and have a late breakfast next door at Carlo’s Kitchen.

The old vic

We really wanted to see a play at The Old Vic (only 5 mins from the hotel) but simply couldn’t afford it so we downsized and bought tickets to Sunny Afternoon in the West End. We love the music of the Kinks, but the show was a tad too cheesy for us. We’ll save up for The Old Vic next time!

Where do you recommend visiting during Christmas time?
