Lately: Reasons To Be Happy

uk lifestyle blog

Today is International Day of Happiness so I thought I’d write a little post about all the things that have made me happy lately. Of course, life isn’t just a big ball of happiness, stuff can get tricky. But right now, I’m focusing on all the smashing things that keep me sane. Prepare for exclamation mark overload…

  • Holidays! If there is one thing that makes me happy, it’s booking a holiday. This year, we’re planning a late Summer trip to Cinque Terre in Italy.  I don’t take any trip away for granted; I still marvel at the fact that we flew across the world to Australia. But Italy? Oh Italy! Gelato, people-watching and pottering in the sunshine. Oh my!
  • I turned 34. I’ve been worried about this for a while (years!), but not because I’m getting older. My aunt, who suffered from severe epilepsy (and related illnesses) sadly passed away when she was 27. My great-grandma, who also had epilepsy, died at the age of 33. Then there is me. For a long time, I thought somehow, I would go down the same path. Silly, I know. It’s not something to celebrate of course, but I’m super proud that my body is behaving and I have been seizure-free for 10 years next month. Well done body, you deserve cake!
  • I have my family close by. More importantly my young niece and nephew. They are the bees knees and make me laugh my head off.
  • Great films, music and books. I love escaping so I can discover new worlds, and not get consumed by my own. I do that by watching film after film, reading books and listening to music everyday.
  • I have lots of fun things planned for the next few months. Gigs including Joan as Police Woman and Neutral Milk Hotel, a hotel stay in sunny Sheffield (it will be sunny, it will), birthday parties and Blogtacular in London.
  • Spring is here! Well, today it rained by the bucket load but there are buds on the trees and bees bumbling around, and that is a good start.
  • This blog. Writing, photography, blog design, learning code, the blogging community…I love it all. Thank you for reading, you lovely lot.

What’s making you smile today?

I binged on three episodes of The Great British Sewing Bee earlier today. I love watching it, even though I’m utterly incapable of sewing in a straight line with a machine!

I’ve also been enjoying watching my latest bunch of daffodils slowly opening. We come downstairs every morning and eagerly look to see if any new ones have opened. It’s the little things!

Lately what’s been making me happy is the spring flowers, my very amazing other half for being so so supportive and the fact I’ve started reading for pleasure again 🙂

How brilliant news to be seizure free for so long 🙂 Get some cake in you!

    Happy international happy day! x

    I’m smiling over….
Memories of the times me and my grandad shared together,
My boyfriend is crap at cracking eggs and made a eggy mess on the floor again (this happens often),
buying another load of wool for my stash today,
My finished knitted vintage inspired sweater top,
my boyfriend’s homemade hash browns for on my burgers for tea,
A visit from my best friend and kind words,
last but not least a snuggle from my temperamental Cat.
Have a great happy day X

You say thank you for reading, I say thank you for being there. I really enjoy this blog, it’s ray of sunshine on the net and it’s about time I told you (I’ve been a silent reader for a looong time)
