Style: Grown-up Grunge

I have a confession to make. On the 10th September 2013, I gathered evidence from my laptop and came to the following conclusion; I have succumbed to the grunge trend (call the cops).

Not one, but six leather jackets were bookmarked on this ‘ere computer. Followed by Autumnal and rich floral dresses and ankle boots…SO MANY ANKLE BOOTS. Add my usual unkempt hair and deep red nail varnish and there it was for all to see. Grunge has found the 90s kid in me and I think it’s here to stay.

In my defence, I’ve varied the look slightly from my teenage grunge favourites; the plaid shirt, Dr Martens and ripped jeans wouldn’t suit my 33-year-old shape anymore. Instead this is my take on a more feminine and grown up grunge look that ties in perfectly with the upcoming seasons.

The essentials of the outfit are the dress, jacket and boots. The floral skater dress is a good length, with boat neckline and black lace details on the shoulders for added rock and roll allure. Teamed with a staple leather jacket with an asymmetric zip fastening (I’m still waiting to find the one!), and you’ve got the basics of a grunge look. Not too hard, huh?

Now come the boots. It seems, in my thirties, I’m coveting ankle boots left, right and centre. The lace up suede boots from Topshop are on the official wish list and are more than a little bit lovely. Indeed they are. To complete the look? A leather satchel, edgy jewellery and complimenting nail polish. I rest my case.

Any other 90s kids out there loving the grunge trend?

I love grunge wears, I’ve recently grabbed a nice guernsey styled bagging cream sweater from work to accompany my mid calf Dr Martens and jeans. I’m currently waiting for a cooler day to be able to walk to work in my leather jacket and my dyed maxi dress!
Oh how I love thee grunge!! 😀

Just wanted to say thank you 🙂 After this post I’ve been waiting for my birthday so that I could get a leather jacket (I bookmarked this one as soon as I saw it), the day has arrived and so has the Mango leather jacket and it fits beautifully even with a knitted jumper dress underneath)
