Style: Wedding Outfits

I suffer from major guilt pangs. Namely when I eat two slices of cake, use my OH’s razor or when purchasing a new outfit for a wedding. I’m not comfortable spending pennies on a new dress I will only wear once or twice when I could be spending it on holidays and good food (or perhaps my own razor!). I’ll happily wear something I already own but for some reason everything in my wardrobe suddenly becomes thoroughly unsuitable when choosing the right dress for a wedding. Why is that? Why does the dress I bought last year feel all kinds of wrong?

After making a good purchase recently, my top tip is to choose a dress that you will wear again (not just for weddings) with a classic cut and from a well known and trusted brand, in case you want to sell it on in the future. To save some money, use a discount voucher website, or raise a few pennies by using sites like musicMagpie who will collect your unwanted clothes for cash. You might not make enough to cover a new dress, but it could pay for a pair of shoes or a fancy fascinator.

Jemima Peacock Blue Fit and Flare Dress, Reiss

I have two very special weddings next month and after trawling through websites for a classic but gorgeous dress, I eventually stumbled upon this beauty from Reiss.  The dress is my favourite colour, it has pockets and it nips in at the waist and flares out at the hips – ideal for a size 14/16 lady! It’s probably the most I’ve ever spent on a dress at £84 (reduced from £169) but I feel no guilt as I think this is something that I can dress up or down. Plus, did I mention it has pockets to stash wedding cake in? Oh my.

What do you think? Do you think black wedges (can’t do heels), a clutch and a fancy fascinator will work well with this?

Such a gorgeous dress and at under 100 bucks you can’t go wrong. Is there any chance you could re think the fascinator….they tend to look a bit “mad aunty” especially when drink has been imbibed. How about spending the cash on a bitchin blow dry or perhaps a statement necklace? Just a thought. By the way I love your blog.

Ha! I love this comment! I think you’re right about fascinators, they’re not me at all anyway! I shall research hair do’s immediately : )
