Confessions of a bike rider.

I have a confession to make. I haven’t been out on my trusty Dutch bike for a long time. A very long time (looks up at ceiling and twiddles thumbs).

This makes me feel sad for three reasons:

1) For telling the other half I would use my bike all the time if he bought me one for my 30th. So he did and I didn’t. Meh.

2) Every time I go in the back room, she (my bike, Mathilde) is surrounded by all the other unused items; cricket bats, suitcases and boxes.

3) She has a flat tyre which in my mind makes me believe she is deflated ‘literally’ for not being used. Poor Mathilde.

So, I am going to do something about it! Yes I am! Long gone are the excuses of bad weather and ‘I dont have time’. Mathilde and I are going on a little trip!

These lovely ladies in their cute outfits have inspired me to get my frock on and get biking!

I’m getting a bike soon, and a road safety lesson (my excuse has always been fear of cycling in London so I am attacking that excuse). Lovely photos – is number one from the skirt bike ride in New York?

Oh this rings so many bells with me! My bike is about 10 years old. It all started so wonderfully. I bought her spontaneously on a holiday in Devon and we had the time of our lives cycling all over that week. It’s still one of my fave holiday memories.
She safely bore me to work in inner city London and back each day (scary horses!).
Then she carried me loyally through a 70 mile charity bike ride – what a gal!
Then I got pregnant and well things just haven’t been the same. We’ve grown apart ;-( (I think I’ll stop there, in fact i think you’ve inspired a post!).

I urge you to enjoy Mathilde while you’re still footloose and fancy free x

I love my Dutch style bike but it has become a bit of a carthorse as I use it everyday to commute to work. As such I even went to the lengths of buying myself a second bike (a vintage ladies racer) for weekend use to try and inspire me to do more leisure cycling. Alas it is currently in the shed unused and probably feeling eversoslightly jealous of my #1 bike that gets to go out every day. Your pictures of the care free ladies has made me think I should get out for a nice leisurely weekend ride before the tyres on #2 bike become deflated. Happy peddling.
